What is Pentagon MMA all about?
We are a community of fun-loving, adventurous folks of all ages and walks of life who have a passion for Muay Thai (also known as Kickboxing or Thai Boxing), Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), mixed martial arts, and fitness in general, and a deep appreciation for the benefits it brings to our lives. We are here to help you achieve your goals. Whether you are looking for a more effective, exciting workout, learning self defense, or training with the best and competing at the amateur or professional level, Pentagon MMA is the place for you!
Is Pentagon MMA located near public transportation?
Yes! We are just off Columbia Pike a few steps away from the Columbia Pike/S. Edgewood Street bus stop, the infamous million dollar “super stop.” The closest metro station is Pentagon City, which is just a short bus ride away from our facility. For those of you with access to a car, we have abundant FREE off-street parking!
Do I have to be fit to do this?
No! Our Foundations and Beginner classes are introductory-level classes geared towards folks who have little to no martial arts or athletic background. All of our instructors, including Boot Camp and Women's Fitness Kickboxing, are trained to work with your fitness level. While you can progress at your own pace and comfort level, we always encourage our students to push themselves and constantly strive for improvement.
Am I too old for this?
No way! We have clients that are in their 60s and 70s and love the way mixed martial arts makes them feel. Whether it be through a slower-paced personal training session or Foundations/Beginner class, or a faster-paced sparring class or Mixed Levels class, we will make sure you achieve your health and fitness goals in a safe and friendly environment.
What do I need to bring with me to class?
An open mind, a lot of energy, and a positive attitude! Also, you will need the following:
Muay Thai classes: Hand Wraps, 16 oz Boxing Gloves, and Shin Guards. For your trial class, we can lend you the gloves and shin guards, but you will need to purchase your own hand wraps, which are available for sale at our Pro Shop for a low price.
Standup Sparring classes: Headgear, mouth guard, and groin protector, in addition to the gear required for regular Muay Thai classes.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes: Gi and belt.
No-Gi Grappling classes: Rash guard and MMA shorts or leggings.
Women’s Fitness Kickboxing classes: Hand wraps and (at least) 12 oz boxing gloves. We can lend you the gloves for your trial class, but you will need your own hand wraps, which we sell at our Pro Shop at a great low price.
Warrior Kids classes: For trial class, please have your child wear comfortable workout clothing. Once you join us, they will receive the gear they need for class.
Gurkha Warrior Boot Camp classes: Comfortable workout clothes.
We have all of the above gear available for sale at our Pro Shop at great prices. If we don’t have it in stock, we can order it for you.
Is Pentagon MMA family friendly?
You bet! Many of our adult students also enroll their significant other and children. We have a "Kids' Corner" in our Reception where kids can hang out while parents take class. Also, our Warrior Kids’ Program is an awesome way to begin instilling discipline, focus, and respect in our little ones, and generally develop good citizens and strong (both mentally and physically) human beings. We love kids. We love to see them grow and develop their personalities, and we also love to throw them birthday parties at Pentagon MMA! We have over 10 years of experience in working with kids as young as 3 years of age. Our Warrior Kids’ Program is designed to build character, strength, self-confidence, and discipline, keeping your children fully engaged in a fun yet structured environment. Check out our Warrior Kids’ Program page for more information!
What kind of investment am I looking at?
While we do offer classes on a drop-in basis, the most economical way to join us is via one of our memberships. Memberships generally start in the low $100s per month depending on the program (i.e. Muay Thai, BJJ/Grappling, Boot Camp, etc.), length of membership, and number of classes included. Our various membership options are structured to work with your budget and preferred payment plan. We would be happy to go over all the membership options when you come by for your free trial class, and see what works best for your schedule and lifestyle.
What does my membership include?
In addition to world-class instruction and challenging classes, memberships include use of our facility and equipment during our open hours. We have a variety of conditioning equipment available, including rower, dumbbells, heavy bags, kettlebells, squat rack, and more. You also receive member-only discounts for seminars, camps, and other events.
Will I get hit in Muay Thai class?
That depends on your experience and comfort level. First, regardless of class level, all members are required to wear protective gear during all Muay Thai classes. The All Levels classes involve drills with a partner, with the protection of kick pads, focus mitts, and Thai pads. These drills are designed to simulate sparring sessions, so there will be physical contact, although indirect. In sparring classes and Fight Team training, you will get hit. If you are uncomfortable at any time during the class, please let the instructor in charge know so he or she can modify the technique drills or strength and conditioning exercises for you.
What do I get as part of my free trial session?
You get to take a FREE Foundation/Beginner class in any discipline. No strings attached and no pressure to purchase membership. This is our way of inviting you to check out our facility, meet our staff, and take our world-class classes. We want you to be completely comfortable before you commit to a membership, so that you know what to expect from our program, and, of course, stay with us for a very long time!
I am interested in the Muay Thai program. Do I have to start with the Foundations class?
For your own safety and comfort, we require that members with little to no martial arts background begin with Foundations classes. This requirement may be waived solely with approval of the Head Instructor. At Pentagon MMA, we believe strong fundamentals are the pillars of success.
Does Pentagon MMA offer private sessions for adults and children?
Of course! If you feel you will benefit more from personalized, one-on-one attention, our instructors are available to provide personal training sessions, subject to availability. Check out our Personal Training page for details on pricing. If you prefer personalized training in the comfort of your own home (and have the space available), we can arrange that too! Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
or call us at 703.521.1000 for more information.
