Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Grappling
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It was designed to be effective for persons of any size, allowing smaller practitioners to overcome larger and stronger opponents based on technique, body positioning and leverage. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu utilizes joint locks and choke holds to subdue one's opponent. Known as "the gentle art," it qualifies as a combat sport, self-defense system and a way of life. Through BJJ training, higher levels of fitness, mental focus, and self-confidence can be achieved. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program at Pentagon MMA is affiliated with Leo Dalla Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school and Big Brothers Competition Team. Our BJJ students progress through the Jiu-Jitsu belt system as determined by Suldbayar (Sugi) Damdin, our BJJ instructor, and Master Leo Dalla.
BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU FOUNDATIONS
This is a beginner level Jiu-Jitsu class designed to provide students with a solid understanding of the building blocks of Jiu-Jitsu, with a focus on Jiu-Jitsu-specific conditioning and theory. Gi is required for this class, and all levels are welcome.
BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU ALL LEVELS
This is an intermediate to advanced level Jiu-Jitsu class incorporating transitions and combinations, including more advanced movements and techniques. Gi is required for this class.
This class focuses on tactics and strategies of throwing or “taking-down” opponents with a “Gi." Though most of the tactics and throws used are based upon Judo, the class will not be constrained by the current competition rules of the International Judo Federation (i.e. banned throws which grab the lower body). In addition to throws and take-downs, the class will also cover effective transitions from standing to ground or submissions. This class is a must for the BJJ and Judo competitor/practitioner or anyone interested in learning how the two sports can effectively supplement each other. Gi is required for this class.
TAKEDOWNS - NO-GI JIU-JITSU
This is an intermediate level Jiu-Jitsu class emphasizing takedown techniques. Live sparring and drilling is a part of every class.
